How to Find Perimeter of a Rectangle Easily
Before we go ahead and tell you the way to calculate the Perimeter of a Rectangle, we would like to explain a few things, so you learn it in a better way and never forget.
- A Rectangle always has the same length for both the sides
- A Rectangle always has the same width for both the sides
- So in the rectangle above, AB will always be equal to CD and AC will always be equal to BD. In another word: AB = CD and AC = BD.
What is the formula to find the Perimeter of a Rectangle
Perimeter of a Rectangle = 2 (length + width)
In short, it is written as P = 2(l+w)
If we expand the formula it will be like P = (length x 2)+(width x 2)
Question 1: Find the Perimeter of a Rectangle ABCD
Solution:
length = 6cm width = 3cm
Perimeter of Rectangle = 2(length + width) = 2(6cm + 3cm) = 2 x 9cm = 18cm
So the answer is 18cm
Let’s try another one.
Question 2: Calculate the Perimeter of Rectangle WXYZ
Solution:
Width = 7cm Length = 9cm P = 2(l + w) = 2(7 + 9)cm = 2 x 16cm = 32cm
The answer is 32cm
Question 3: A rectangular theater is 200 meters long and 150 meters wide. What is the Perimeter of the theater?
Solution:
Length of theater (l) = 200 meter Width of theater (w) = 150 meter Perimeter of the theater (P) = 2(l+w) = 2(200m + 150m) = 2 x 350m = 700m
So the Perimeter of the rectangular theater is 700 meter.
Note to Readers:
Sometimes you might see on some websites that the Formula to find the Perimeter of a Rectangle is shown as 2(w + h) or 2(l + b). If so, then do not get confused.
In case of 2(w + h) = They are actually taking the length as width and width as height.
In case of 2(l + b) = They are actually mentioning width as breadth.
The answer in all the cases will be the same, but the method we mentioned above is the most popular one.
