Decimal Place Value, Charts, and Downloadable Exercises
Understanding the value of Decimal Places could be a little tricky compared to the place value of whole numbers, but here we will try our best to explain it in a simple and easy way.
Here is an example of a decimal number: 42.39
- The first place after a Decimal is known as Tenths Place and the second place is called Hundredths place.
The Place of 3 in 42.39 is Tenths.
The Place of 9 in 42.39 is Hundredths.
Do not get confused here. Place of 4 in 42.39 is Tens, Place of 2 in Once, and Place of 3 is Tenths. Ones or Oneths place doesn’t exist after the decimal.

The difference between Tens and Tenths, Hundreds and Hundredths, and so on…
- Tens is written as 10s, but Tenths is 1/10s.
- Hundreds is 100s, but Hundredths is 1/100s.
- Thousands is 1000s, but Thousandths is 1/1000s.

Solution:
- The Place value of 4 is the digit 683.294 is 4/1000
- The place value of 9 in the digit 683.294 is 9/100
- The Place value of 2 in the digit 683.294 is 2/10
- The place value of 3 in the digit 683.294 is 3
- The place value of 8 in the digit 683.294 is 80
- The place value of 6 in the digit 683.294 is 600
